The XDR Q3400-RA switch is specified to have 144 × 800G ports, but why does it only have 72 OSFP ports?

Each OSFP port provides two independent 800G connections (Twin-port 800G), so 72 OSFP ports are equivalent to 144 × 800G ports.

Does the XDR switch support backward compatibility?

Yes, it supports backward compatibility through speed reduction. The 800G XDR ports on the XDR switch can be reduced to 400G to connect with CX7 VPI 400G NDR network adapters.
