The exponential growth in demand for high-speed data transmission necessitates efficient and reliable cable connection solutions. In recent years, the volume of data generated and transmitted has reached staggering levels. Cable solutions, including DAC, AOC, and fiber optics, provide the essential speed, capacity, and reliability needed for high-speed data centers. They play a critical role in enabling seamless communication and data transfer.

This article will introduce the DAC, AOC, and fiber cabling solutions for 800G data centers.

800G Data Center DAC and AOC Solutions

Direct Attach Cables (DAC), including passive copper cables, Active Copper Cables (ACC), and Active Electrical Cables (AEC), are significantly cheaper than fiber optics and can greatly reduce data center costs. Compared to DAC, Active Optical Cables (AOC) are lighter, smaller, have lower error rates, and can transmit over longer distances. DAC and AOC are widely used for short-distance interconnections in network cards, switches, servers, supercomputers, cloud computing, and data centers. All these cables come in two types: direct connect and breakout.

800G DAC

The rise of large and hyperscale data centers has significantly increased the power capacity of individual server racks, shortening the vertical cabling distance. Therefore, 800G data center DAC cabling solutions are widely used to connect servers within racks. They operate over passive copper lines, ensuring high-quality connections without the need for additional power. DACs come in two breakout types: direct and breakout, suitable for OSFP and QSFP-DD.

NADDOD's 800G DAC supports hot-swappable functionality, low power consumption, small bending radius, and flexible cabling, offering high stability, low cost, space-saving cabling, and excellent heat dissipation for data center environments. These DAC cables seamlessly integrate with switches, routers, and servers, ensuring flexibility in network design and device integration. Additionally, experts at NADDOD will provide the most effective DAC + single mode modules solution based on your network and your needs.

800G ACC/AEC

At high transmission rates, copper cable losses increase, and interconnect lengths become insufficient, leading to the introduction of ACC and AEC. ACCs use a Redriver chip architecture to adjust the gain at the Rx end through CTLE equalization, functioning like active cables by amplifying analog signals. AECs use a retimer chip architecture, which not only amplifies and equalizes signals at both the Tx and Rx ends but also reshapes the signal at the Rx end. ACCs and AECs are also used to connect TOR and servers. They simplify the patching process and provide an economical way to offer higher bandwidth transmission for short links.

800G AOC

800G AOC, by increasing bandwidth, minimizing latency, and reducing power consumption, is ideal for distributed data centers and cloud environments. Additionally, PAM4 DSP technology with VCSEL optimizes performance while reducing cost and complexity. Market-available 800G AOC point-to-point interconnects offer speeds up to 800Gbps and distances up to 100 meters, supporting single 800Gbps interfaces connecting to two 400G QSFP-DD modules in breakout cable configurations. This breakout cable is perfect for connecting next-generation 800Gbps switches to existing 400Gbps ports without additional conversion or mapping.

Fiber Optic Cabling Solutions for 800G Data Centers

Compared to DAC and AOC, 800G fiber optic cables offer superior performance and efficiency for high-speed data transmission, suitable for high-density cabling solutions. The advantages of fiber optics are clear: minimal latency, low power consumption, and longer transmission distances, ensuring more stable and reliable connections for long-distance needs.

MTP/MPO Fiber Cables

MTP jumpers come in basic core counts of 8, 12, 16, and 24. Among them, 12-core MTP OM4 fiber cables are a good choice for data center cabling solutions that save space and improve cable management. The 16-core MTP trunk cable is designed for 800G QSFP-DD/OSFP DR8 and 800G OSFP XDR8 direct fiber connections.

MTP/MPO cabling solutions provide the high density, reliability, and flexibility required by data centers, suitable for connecting core, backbone, and leaf platforms. They also feature plug-and-play functionality, easy management, excellent bend and crush resistance, and support for 100G/400G/800G upgrades, making them ideal for today’s 800G data center cabling.

Uniboot Fiber Patch Cords

Uniboot cables allow a single cable to carry two fibers, reducing cable volume during cabling. They use ultra-small form factor (VSFF) connectors, supporting 200/400/800G Ethernet communication, while offering 1.5 times higher fiber cabling density than duplex LC. These cables are designed for high-density fiber plug-in in 200/400/800G data centers, requiring space-saving and reduced cable management issues. Additionally, they are smaller and lighter, making installation and maintenance easier and improving overall network performance.

Conclusion

Deploying 800G data centers requires careful consideration of different cable types and their specific characteristics. By selecting the appropriate cable type and considering factors such as bandwidth, distance, and cost, data centers can ensure the necessary connectivity and support for seamless 800G operations.
