NVIDIA QM9790 switch come with 64 400Gb/s ports on 32 physical octal small form-factor pluggable (OSFP) connectors that can be split to deliver up to 128 200Gb/s ports. The compact, 1U, fixed configuration switch offering includes internally managed and externally managed (aka unmanaged) versions. They carry an aggregated bidirectional throughput of 51.2 terabits per second (Tb/s), with a landmark capacity of more than 66.5 billion packets per second. As an ideal rack-mounted InfiniBand solution, the NVIDIA Quantum-2 switches allow maximum flexibility, enabling a variety of topologies, including Fat Tree, Dragonfly+, multi-dimensional Torus, and more.

Can the same module on an NDR switch have one port connected to an NDR cable and another port connected to an NDR200 1-to-2 cable?

Yes, this is possible, but the switch side needs to configure port splitting for the NDR port.

Is there a difference in the number of management nodes between the switch management function, the openSM subnet manager of the network card, and UFM? Which option is more suitable for customers during deployment?

Managed switches are suitable for managing up to 2,000 nodes, while UFM and OFED's openSM have unlimited node management capabilities, depending on the CPU and hardware processing capacity of the management nodes.

Can the NDR switch support downward compatibility?

Yes, it can achieve downward compatibility by reducing the speed. The 400G NDR ports on the NDR switch can be downshifted to 200G to connect to the CX6 VPI 200G HDR network card.

Does the IB switch support Ethernet?

Currently, there are no switches that support both IB and Ethernet simultaneously. According to IB standards, Ethernet data (IPv4, IPv6) can communicate over the IB network in a tunneled format (IPoIB).

What is the difference between managed and unmanaged IB switches?

Managed switches run a Network Operating System (NOS), similar to standard Ethernet switches. They allow direct login and configuration through a dedicated management port and provide subnet manager functionality (which can be enabled as needed). Unmanaged switches, on the other hand, do not have a CPU and do not run a NOS; configuration is performed through a remote configuration tool, mlxconfig.

Are the management functions of the switch, the opensm subnet manager of the network card, and UFM the same thing? What is UFM?

The subnet manager is an essential network controller for IB networks, providing a range of functions such as network initialization, routing, and partitioning. It can be deployed on managed IB switches, as well as on Linux servers equipped with IB cards and OFED drivers, and is one of the many components of UFM. UFM is a comprehensive platform that includes several types, such as telemetry, Enterprise, and Cyber-AI. Taking UFM Enterprise, the most widely used application, as an example, UFM offers web-based management, monitoring, and analysis of the entire network. UFM can manage the entire IB network through in-band management and monitor the IB network end-to-end, including HCA (IB network cards), cables, and IB switches. The server deploying UFM must meet the requirements of the UFM software (UFM Telemetry/Enterprise) and be equipped with an IB card to provide in-band IB connectivity.

The NDR 9700/9790 switches claim to have 64 400G ports, but why do they only feature 32 OSFP ports?

Due to size and power constraints, the 1U panel of the NDR switch can only accommodate 32 cages (OSFP). Each OSFP port provides two independent 400G connections, referred to as Twin-port 400G.

What is the difference between P2C and C2P airflow in IB switches?

P2C stands for power-to-connector, while C2P stands for connector-to-power.
